The move by Germany’s Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus was announced last week and has been framed as criminalising activities that could infringe on the experiences of those seeking abortions. While harassment is already illegal, this legislation intends to create nationwide censorship zones, restricting peaceful expression and potentially infringing on freedom of assembly and expression.

San Francisco officials sued over guaranteed income initiative for transgender individuals

San Francisco officials are being sued by a group of residents over a supposed “illegal” initiative that offers government funds to low-income transgender individuals who are mainly black and Latino males transitioning to female. The initiative known as the “Guaranteed Income for Trans People (GIFT) Program” was announced in November 2022 by Democratic Mayor London Breed, who is also named in the lawsuit.

Canada delays euthanasia for people with mental illness

For a second year in a row, Canada’s federal government is going to delay opening euthanasia to people whose only condition is a mental illness. The expansion in eligibility was due to begin on March 17. But a report from a joint parliamentary committee has declared that the country is ill-prepared for this change.

A majority of the members of the committee argued that euthanasia for mental illness should not be made available until the federal and provincial health and justice ministers believe that “based on recommendations from their respective departments and in consultation with their provincial and territorial counterparts and with Indigenous peoples, that it can be safely and adequately provided.”
