The Texas abortion ban is working and not only is the ban protecting babies from abortions it’s helping pregnant women find better alternatives. As LifeNews previously reported, the Texas health department shows just 17 abortions so far in 2023 as the state’s pro-life law has saved tens of thousands of babies from abortions. Texas Health and Human Services Commission recorded only 17 legal abortions in the first four months of 2023, according to a new report by the agency. All the abortions that took place were needed to save the life of the mother or because of medical emergencies.

Abortion is just as inflammable and divisive an issue as ever in the United States, but the rhetoric is changing. The best illustration of the shift in language is the rebadging of one of the leading American pro-choice organisations, NARAL. The shift from “choice” to “freedom” is interesting and merits further discussion. But even more interesting is research by the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion thinktank, which suggests that people have a wide range of views on what abortion is. In an article in the journal Social Science & Medicine, its researchers report on reactions to several vignettes. “Our biggest takeaway is that people do not hold a shared standard definition of what is and isn’t an abortion,” lead author Alicia VandeVusse told NPR. “We found that there’s a lot of nuance and ambiguity in how people are thinking about these issues and understanding these issues.”

Anthropologists cancel panel discussion on sex binary over ‘transphobia’

The American Anthropology Association, together with its Canadian counterpart, has cancelled a presentation at its November conference in Toronto because the speakers planned to affirm the existence of two sexes. Organised by Kathleen Lowrey, of the University of Alberta, the event was titled: “Let’s Talk About Sex Baby: Why Biological Sex Remains a Necessary Analytic Category in Anthropology.” Several speakers were scheduled, but the panel was abruptly removed from the conference programme. Why? The two organising groups released a statement to the media explaining entitled “No Place for Transphobia in Anthropology.”
