What’s Liberating About 2 Million Mothers Quitting Work In The Last Year.

A surprising number of women are responding to lockdowns in an unanticipated way: trading their jobs for more time at home. In September 2020 alone, more than 800,000 women left the workforce. Their numbers swell to 2 million now.

There is little indication most of these women are leaving or downsizing their work under duress, or at the expense of keeping food on the table. Rather, many of these women are responding to something they feel in their bones: the need for stability in the face of crisis, especially for their children. Women are responding to the pandemic by reordering their lives to a saner pace, one more centered on home.

Marriage/Family

Family love is the foundation of civilization.

The almost universal preference for one’s own children is not a disease, a disorder, a symptom of inequality, or a sign of racism. Most people call it something else — love. And most people believe it is a good thing. In fact, the love of mothers and fathers has historically been the standard against which all other love is measured. Read more

American men need to make responsibility great again.

The recent controversy surrounding the Texas abortion law caused a diverse coalition of left-leaning men to suddenly sound like sophomore gender studies majors. I have been disheartened by the number of men who think other men should shut up about abortion — unless they support it — because they have bought the “my body, my choice” mantra. That desire to evade responsibility in such a highly charged political debate mirrors similar behavior in our everyday lives. The country is getting weaker because American men are suffering from a responsibility crisis. Read more

$3.5T Spending Bill Would Lavish Hundreds of Billions on Nanny State Education.

The bulk of the proposed education spending in the House Education and Labor Committee proposal—$450 billion—would be earmarked for federal universal preschool and child care. The spending would go toward government universal preschool for 3- and 4-year-old children, as proposed in the Biden administration’s American Families Plan. Read more

TikTok Promotes Sex, Drugs, and Alcohol to Kids, Investigation Finds.

Investigators for The Wall Street Journal set up 31 fake TikTok accounts registered to users between the ages of 13 and 15 and studied their “For You” feeds, which consist of videos recommended to users by TikTok’s suggestion algorithm.

TikTok showed the underage accounts thousands of videos depicting drugs, pornography and sexual content, and alcohol use, including over 100 videos promoting pornography subscription services and sex products. Read more

In Defense of Motherhood: What’s Wrong with “Birthing People”.

Conception, not birth, is the original moment in a child’s life and dependence on parents. But genealogy is not the only basis for parental authority. Children cannot rear themselves, but being reared is in their interest, and so the parent’s wise and ongoing governance is itself a source of parental claims over children. Read more

THREE-YEAR-OLDS TO BE ASKED THEIR PRONOUNS.

The Australian State of NSW has sunk to new lows, publishing a guide that imposes radical gender ideology on children as young as three years of age.

An official guide produced by the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian titled Empowerment and Participation says adults should not assume a child’s gender. Read more

Euthanasia: why are we letting all those perfectly good organs go to waste?

“Organ donation after euthanasia,” several Dutch physicians declare, “is a pure act of altruism.”

Does anyone sense anything unethical about this scenario?

The authors of the proposal are confident that a home setting for organ donation after euthanasia “maximally contributes to the patient’s autonomy”. But they ignore the enormous potential for emotional blackmail if this become common.

These potential donors often feel that their lives are useless; shouldn’t we try to argue them out of their demoralised state, rather than agree with them so that we can harvest heir organs? Read more

Kamala Harris: The Right to Kill Babies in Abortions is “Not Negotiable”.

Abortion on demand up to a birth Kamala said is a value we “hold as an ideal.”

“So for me this is truly an issue that is about full participation. And in that way we know that when all people are able to fully participate, our democracy is stronger, and everyone benefits,” she said. Read more UFI Comment: Oh the irony! Full participation for all people, unless you haven’t been born yet.

Pro-Life Group Says Google Banned Its Ads in ‘Dramatic and Unprecedented Move’.

“By restricting scientific information related to abortion pill reversal and other life-saving options, while accepting paid ads promoting life-ending abortions, Google has chosen to operate by an outrageously dishonest and blatant double standard,” Rose said in a statement. “The consequence is devastating—more women and girls will be marketed abortions through Google platforms, without also being offered life-affirming options.” Read more

EU religious freedom envoy position now vacant while Afghan faith minorities face deepening crisis.

“A swift reappointment is crucial in showing real commitment to improving the precarious situations religious minorities are facing worldwide,” said Adina Portaru, Senior Counsel for ADF International in Brussels.

The European Commission had appointed Stylianides this May after the position had been left vacant for two years. Human rights experts had raised concern over the poor resourcing and staffing provided to carry out the mandate. Read more

Salvadoran president urged to oppose proposed pro-abortion constitutional changes.

Seventy-five pro-life and pro-family organizations on Monday asked the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, to oppose the changes to the constitution promoted by his vice president, Félix Ulloa, which would open the doors to abortion, euthanasia, and gender ideology, and would threaten religious freedom. Read more

Former Wife of Al-Qaeda Operative Speaks Out on Plight of Afghan Women.

The atrocities that Muslim women suffer in Afghanistan are “not just an Afghanistan phenomenon,” Mohammed says. “It’s not just a Taliban phenomenon. You can see the exact same things happening clearly in 50 Muslim-majority countries … [and] in the West as well.” Read more

Getting Serious About Protecting Women’s Sports.

For more than a year, politicians, policymakers and athletes have sounded the alarm over the threat to women’s sports. Yet, at least 19 state athletic associations have allowed athletes to compete as male or female according to their gender identity, and both the NCAA and even the Olympics have followed suit.

In order to help athletic associations, policymakers, and courts understand the threat to female athletes and women’s sports, Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) has compiled loads of information, covering all the evidence regarding physiological sex differences and the male-female athletic gap, into a new report. Read more

Gender self-identification laws are being exploited by sexual predators.

Concern for the safety of women and girls has been replaced with emphatic reminders about the harassment transgender people face if they are excluded from their preferred spaces, even when the individual in question is a convicted sex offender. Read more

John Lewis pretending both sexes are the same is ludicrous.

This trend to steer children’s clothing departments away from anything ‘gender binary’ is gaining ground. The family-friendly store John Lewis announced its children’s clothes would bear labels reading ‘girls and boys’ or ‘boys and girls’ and its sections would no longer be divided along obvious gender lines.

Imagine if other groups started to campaign to eliminate all differences. The overweight could demand that manufacturers only offer a ‘one-size-fits-all’ sack-like garment. Spectacle wearers could demand that everyone be forced to wear glasses; the list is endless. Why should gender be the only ‘stereotype’ picked out from all the many biological variations if we take all this to its logical conclusion? Read more
